NHS Patients

Your vision is our top priority. That’s why we are delighted to cater to both NHS and private patients. An NHS-funded eye test means that the NHS will cover the full cost of your eye test, so long as you are eligible. You will also be given an optical voucher towards the cost of your glasses or contact lenses.

Do I qualify for an NHS-funded test?

You’re entitled to a free NHS sight test if you:

  • are under 16 or over 60
  • are 16, 17 or 18 and in full-time education
  • are registered as partially sighted or blind
  • have been diagnosed with diabetes or glaucoma
  • are 40 or over and your mother, father, sibling or child has been diagnosed with glaucoma
  • have been advised by an eye doctor that you’re at risk of glaucoma
  • are a prisoner on leave from prison
  • are eligible for an NHS complex lens voucher 
  • are claiming Income-Based Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support, Universal Credit, Income Related Employment Support Allowance, Pension Credit Guarantee Credit 
  • are on a low income and are named on a valid HC2 or HC3 certificate

NHS optical vouchers

You’re entitled to an optical voucher towards the cost of your glasses or contact lenses if you:

  • are under 16
  • are 16, 17 or 18 and in full-time education
  • are a prisoner on leave from prison
  • are eligible for an NHS complex lens voucher 
  • are claiming Income-Based Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support, Universal Credit, Income Related Employment Support Allowance, Pension Credit Guarantee Credit
  • are on a low income and are named on a valid HC2 or HC3 certificate

NHS complex lens vouchers 

Complex lens vouchers are a contribution towards the cost of these lenses: £14.90 for single vision lenses and £38.15 for bifocal lenses. To be eligible, you must meet the clinical criteria and not be eligible for one of the main optical vouchers.
