Eye Exams

Regular eye examinations are an important part of looking after your vision not just now, but for the future. An eye exam involves a lot more than just checking your vision to see if you need glasses. We also do several tests designed to assess the health of your eyes.

What to expect

Our standard eye exam takes around 30 minutes and includes tests that measure your visual acuity (how well you can focus on details near to you and at a distance), how well your eyes work together, the pressure in your eyes, and we also conduct DVLA-compliant visual field screening.

If you decide to opt for our advanced eye exam, you can expect it to take around an hour. These check the health of the retina at the back of your eye, showing the layers of the eye in detail so our optometrist can see even minute signs of potential problems. We can also refer back to previous scans kept on record to compare them and spot even the slightest change that could be indicative of an issue.

The importance of regular eye tests

Protecting your vision in the years to come relies on you having scheduled eye exams to check for signs of eye disease. Conditions such as age-related macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts, and many more can be detected in the earliest stages using our advanced equipment. This early detection and treatment could save your sight, as often by the time obvious symptoms start to show, the damage can be irreversible.

For most people aged 16-69, it is recommended to have an eye exam every 2 years. Anyone younger or older, and people with diabetes or a history of glaucoma, should have their eyes checked at least once a year. Our optometrist will confirm with you how often you should come back for eye exams. We offer appointments for both private and NHS patients.
